I've Been Featured!

Dixie Redmond is a wonderful selfless artist, dollmaker and researcher who does so much to promote dollmaking, especially re-creations of the cloth dolls of the past, through her website, blog and Ning group. She has been running a series of "interviews" with dollmakers who use antique cloth dolls as their inspiration. Today, she posted an interview with me on http://www.maidatoday.com/. So if you want to read a bit about what makes me tick, head on over there and have a look. While you are at it, check out her blog, (http://www.northdixiedesigns.com/) where she often features techniques and works-in-progress and maybe you might even like to join up at http://www.maidatoday.ning.com/ for a great forum about antique-inspired dolls. You can even take an online class there.

One of Dixie's faithful Izannah Walker style dolls made from patterns she produced after painstaking research on original dolls.

Hi Susie,
Just had to comment on the interview - I agree, what a great read....so interesting. I totally identify with not having enough time for art, household chores and family always seem to take precedence. But I must say that I'm always stunned by your productivity - surely you must have more hours in your day than the rest of us!

Wow, love the interview. I don't know--you are possibly the most productive "busy person" I know--I have that very problem with art-making! LOVE YOUR WORK!

Thanks all! Linda - come over and play one day soon - there's room in the studio now that I've been cleaning it up - I even have surfaces! Merrijane and Zan - I try not to get too distracted by housework ;-) as long as the dust-bunnies are not breeding too much and things look reasonably clean and tidy. And I don't seem to need as much sleep as I used to. The biggest bugbear is cooking......I actually LIKE to cook, but I hate the everydayness (is that even a word?) of it. My husband comes sniffing around at about 4.30 with that "What are you going to cook form dinner?" look on his face, when all I want to do is keep working until 9.00 and then have an egg on toast! Wouldn't swap him though - look at the fab studio he built for me!

The Zutter.... tis a machine that allows one to make ring bound books! ..... it cuts the little holes in the paper, and covers. And then the wire is crimmped into place to hold it all together!

Hi Susie! I was wondering if have online tutorials for face sculpting? I recently read somebody's blog who mentioned your tutorials but I couldn't find them in any of your sites! I so love your work!
