Kaethe Kruse Lookalike Doll

Do you remember some time ago I posted about a Kaethe Kruse look-alike doll that I had started?
I've finally started painting it in oils (like the originals). Having fun re-visiting oils, which I love to use, but don't very often these days. Here's a progress picture - still a long way to go, but I need to let this layer dry first...................which is the reason I don't use oils very often - I get impatient waiting for things to dry, when I want to get on with it!

-and another picture. Coming along!

She is beautiful Susie!
I also love oils but have had to learn patience when using them, but for me maybe that is a good thing. I tend to rush through things and not enjoy the process.
I can hardly wait to see her finished!

She's coming along nicely. I used to paint in nothing but oils but got away from them when my children came along and never went back. I can't wait to see this sweet doll completed.

WOW! Excellent Kathie Kruse likeness! What a pretty doll. Do you ever use Liquin to speed things up with the oils?

Thanks all! Elaine, I'm using liquin - it speeds the drying up from weeks to days.......I'm still impatient! Which is silly, because this head has been hanging around in my studio for months. Why am I so impatient to get it done right now? It's a mystery.

Your Kaethe Kruse look-a-like doll is beautiful! I've never used oils for painting dolls, but it does look like something I should explore. I'm guessing oils require really good ventilation, eh....something in short supply here.

I love the look of the oils, Susie. They are very luminous and have a lot of depth. Really beautiful. Wonderful likeness, and yet I can still see it's a "Susie" doll! Haven't talked with you in a while. I hope everything is going well with you. According to your blog, it sure sounds like it is! :o)

Thanks Everyone! Your comments are really appreciated. Pam - I love the smell of oils - makes my studio smell like a real "atelier". I know some people are sensitive to the volatile ingredients in gum turpentine, but there are non-volatile alternatives available now for sensitive people = almost no smell at all. I'm careful to avoid any dangerous pigments like cadmium and chrome. Bonnie - given my "druthers" I'd use oils all the time, but drying time is a factor I have to take into account, even using stuff to speed up the drying. But I do love to use them!
