In Praise of Old Dogs and Cats and Ripe Tomatoes

I'd like to introduce you to Zappa, our grand-dog. she belongs to our son who often works out and about, so Zappa gets to spend quite a lot of time with us. She is a dear, sweet fifteen old cattle-dog cross with a lovely temperament. Sometimes she forgets she is an old lady and romps around like a puppy - then spends three days sleeping it off! And this is our cat, Puss (yeah, I know, very imaginative!) She has reached the grand old age of twenty-one. She's blind in one eye, partially deaf and a bit stiff in the hips, but she still has a healthy appetite and seems happy and pain-free. I've never known a cat with such a sweet temperament - not a mean bone in her body.
The tomato is our first for this summer......judging by all the unripe ones, we are going to have a bumper crop. There is nothing as good as a home-grown tomato.

Susie, aren't animals wonderful? I have an older Shih Tzu who is also blind in one eye..and a puppy Shih Tzu that I call the Tazmanian Devil; both are very sweet dogs, but as true to their breed, can be anxiously nippy. Best wishes with your garden this season; I'm very jealous of your nice weather, as we freeze in below temps all weekend!

Adorable. And that tomato looks oh so delish to those of us with snow outside!

What a yummy looking tomato. Yes, there's nothing to compare to home grown tomatoes, especially beefsteak ones.

I keep forgetting that you're in the other hemisphere ... summer, ah if only it were nice and warm today.

Looking forward to tomatoes in eight months time! Couldn't imagine life without dogs and cats!

I knew the pic of the ripe tomato would have all of you under six feet of snow hankering for summer delights. Yesterday got to around 90 degrees here. Bit cooler today, thank goodness!

I was thinking about how it must be warm and summery where you live just this morning as a took my 14 year old "pup" out in the freezing cold for her morning constitutional. And yes, feeling a wee bit jealous! :) I love the pet pictures!
