Three teenagers, tech savvy, mobile phone-toting, plugged into i-pods and Myspace, just spent two days of their September break from school making dolls in my studio. They used my 'Lou-Lou' pattern, but had very definite ideas about how they wanted their dolls to look. As you can see, 'Lou-Lou' has had a bit of an update. Some gentle guidance and help when they got stuck and here are the fantastic results! I've never seen young people so intensely absorbed in what they were doing - all the other stuff was forgotten for a while. My conclusion? Kids can still be entertained by doing simple, constructive things if the adults around them take the time to help them do it. The rewards for all are boundless. Well done, Leila, Meg and Erin!
Since I last posted, another birthday has come and gone - I like to keep them a little low-key these days for obvious reasons!

Oh they turned out marvelous. Yes birthdays are no longer fun for me either.
Have a great week.
This is why I love working with kids! They seem so in tune with their own creativity and willing to take chances that terrify adults. These dolls are beautiful!
And having birthdays is certainly better than the alternative! ;)
The girls did a fabulous job.
And a happy birthday belated.
What a great idea. My daughter loves to make things, but I never thought to bring in some of her friends to add to the mix. Hmmm!
Wow! and you are right....young people do wonderful things when their interests are peaked! I have three here and we do art stuff all the time! Anyhoo, those dolls are simply gorgeous! Wish I lived closer, I wanna make one of your dolls ... with your guidance...lol!

Happy birthday, happy joy! Those dolls are fabulous...these kids have never done this before?
You just know they are so proud and they are showing them off to everyone!
The girls were 'camped out' last night in the studio - it has a loft bedroom - and I notice they took the dolls to bed with them. Now they are all inside having breakfast - with the dolls!
Comment from one of them yesterday: "These are WAY better than Bratz dolls"...........YESSSSS!
Way cool! I wish I could have made dolls like these when I was a teenager.
This is so cool! The dolls are just beautiful and what a lucky group of gals they are, to be able to learn this at their age! Oh, and hope your birthday was a very happy, fun-filled one, too!
