Progress
Here's the "Kaethe Kruse" head that I started a few weeks ago - I've added more clay and started sanding it - next step is adding the cloth layer. I studied lots of pictures of original heads to try and reproduce the nuances of form that are evident in the originals and which I find very appealing. I've drafted a body pattern that I think will work, but since I am leaving for the US in a few weeks, I think this project may have to wait until my return to be completed.

She/he looks great! Those chubby cheeks and jowls are exactly Kathie Kruse. This doll is going to be fantastic. What kind of fabric are you going to use to cover the face?

Thanks all. I've been planning to make this doll for a long time - just needed a little window of spare time to get it started.
Elaine, not sure whether this will be a he or a she - Kaethe Kruse made no distinction at all that I can see in her sculpting and painting - only the dressing. (Only later when she started using real wigs could you see a difference). The boys are kind of sweet. I'm using a good quality cotton tricot (stockinet) to cover the head.
