New Work

I must apologize for not posting more often.........getting this house and garden licked into shape takes a lot of my time! At the moment I'm repairing and painting the roof while the weather remains warm and fine. I have broken the back of it - should be done in a week or so if the weather stays dry. You can read about it on my other blog:            http://www.fourteenstepstothebluedoor.blogspot.com.au

Meanwhile, I AM working on my artwork - I'll have work in an exhibition in Adelaide next month - I'm busy completing the pieces so I can send them next week. The exhibition is called "The Doll Redefined" - should be an interesting diversity of work!

Here is a selection of work I've completed recently:

Mr Foxx Out Strolling - jointed cloth with a sculpted cloth-covered head. Painted and embroidered.

"Cirque Des Enfants" No 8 in a series.

"Transmutation - Mor-Rioghain"

"Spiritus Loci 2" w.i.p.

A Big Week!

Well, dear readers, it's been a pretty big week for me - it was my birthday........and to my utter surprise, I find I am now sixty years old! How did THAT happen? Seems like only a few yesterdays ago that I was a student, a young mother, a young grandmother. (I'm pleased to report that greatgrandmotherhood has not happened yet - and I hope it doesn't for a few years yet - though with my eldest grandchild approaching nineteen, who knows?)

So I had a lovely day shared with some special friends, even though the weather was pretty wild  and typical of Spring in Tasmania ("In like a lion, out like a lamb" they say - hope that's right).

Here's what I spent yesterday doing, after dropping my husband at the airport at 5:00am - he's headed off to the Flinders Ranges in SA for a few weeks of rock-climbing. With Resident Grand-daughter also heading off tomorrow for a week in Queensland, I have a week of solitary bliss stretching out in front of me. For me, that means not much cooking or housework and uninterrupted hours in the studio with the fire blazing! I should get lots done.

This piece is still a work in progress - plenty to do on it yet. I wonder if you can work out what some of the unusual things are that I have incorporated into this piece?

The Little Acorn Child......

......is done!

We're into the last few weeks of winter now, with the promise of Spring all around - warmer days, wind, sun, blossoms. It feels great to be alive!
Here's another doll I'm working on:

And look! The other day my husband came home from a little shopping trip with a guilty look on his face, saying, "I did something very bad". Bad, bad Bob! Look at the size of that baby! This is what happens when children who had chocolate-deprived childhoods grow up!
